Master Gardener...NOT!

by Marguerite Crespillo

as a kid my mom always had a huge garden no matter where we lived (and we moved a lot).

But as a single mom she was always very resourceful and found ways for us to always have fresh vegetables and herbs and she would scour local markets and trade with other gardeners to get things she didn’t have.

In fact every summer she would go out to the fruit orchards and talk the farmers in to giving her as much fruit as she could pick and she would spend about every evening canning to prepare for winter.

I remember jars and jars of peaches, applesauce, watermelon pickles, tomato sauce and so much more.

I wish I had paid more attention but it was always work and chores to me and never seemed fun as a teenager.

Fast forward a few years and here I am trying to figure out how to just keep plants alive lol. I always seem to be too busy to remember to water the dang things!

Over the last could years I have learned to do some basic canning, which I really enjoy. I started a garden but still have not figured out how to keep the soil good and ready for different plants, thus this year I had huge beautiful tomato plants that produced NO red tomatoes.

Although my Sunflowers were 7 feet tall😊.

And I have discovered Succulents! They hardly need water and take over! Perfect!

I will say I am starting to really enjoy keeping my plants alive and would love to learn more.

If you love to garden and are interested in creating a gardening group or already have on… I’m interested!

Warmly,

Marguerite

P.S. If you are looking for more space to put a garden in, as your real estate agent… I can help with that too!
